Sanctity of Human Life Sunday
Celebrated Each January
On January 16, 1984, President Ronald Reagan issued a Presidential Proclamation designating January 22, 1984 as NATIONAL SANCTITY OF HUMAN LIFE DAY. He issued the proclamation annually thereafter to be on the third Sunday of January, which represents the closest Sunday to the anniversary of the Roe vs. Wade decision of the U. S. Supreme Court. NATIONAL SANCTITY OF LIFE SUNDAY is commemorated by thousands of churches and individuals who desire to take a stand for life. Pastors and teachers give special Sunday school lessons and sermons, some churches may ring bells, and others sponsor prayer and candlelight vigils. Some supporters participate in pro-life baby showers. Many Christians prayerfully petition the Lord for mercy and humbly fast that the fundamental right to life will be honored in conception and until natural death. To focus on the sacredness of human life, Blount County Sav-a-Life partners in a nationwide campaign, distributing bulletin inserts in local churches. If you would like to assist us in reaching your church, please call our office at 205-625-5416 to receive bulletin inserts and find out other ways in which you may participate. |
